Loughborough’s MP, Nicky Morgan, welcomes a fall in local unemployment

Nicky Morgan has highlighted Government achievements in Loughborough and the East Midlands with Conservative Party Conference just a few days away.Since the 2010 General Election, in April 2010, 1,785 people were on out of work benefits, with that figure now at 1,236. This means in Loughborough we’ve gone from 2.5% of the working population out of work to 1.7%.

Nicky Morgan welcomes £10m funding for local A&E department

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan has welcomed the announcement of new funding to help the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust be ready for any additional demand on services that might occur this winter.The Trust, which covers the Loughborough area, is receiving a £10m boost to the A&E department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary which will ensure it can provide a good service to everyone that needs it this Christmas.

The ninth annual Countryside Alliance Awards are now open for public nominations, and Nicky Morgan is urging the local community to get nominating. The Countryside Alliance Awards, nicknamed the Rural Oscars, were borne of a need to support and promote rural communities.They celebrate people going the extra mile to ensure that rural Britain’s food and farming industry, small businesses, traditional skills, forward-thinking enterprises and, most of all, its people, can flourish.

Mountsorrel Heritage Group “brings history alive” says local MP

Nicky Morgan has praised a local group who have been awarded a Heritage Lottery grant of £22,800 recently. The Mountsorrel Heritage Group has been given the money to create the ‘Mountsorrel Archive’ and website to promote the village’s rich history.Nicky, along with other guests, visited an exhibition at the Mountsorrel Library last Thursday morning to meet members of the group who were showcasing their project.

Nicky Morgan visits new 3G pitch at Charnwood College

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan was given the opportunity to visit the new state-of-the-art 3G sports pitch when she visited Charnwood College last week. She was shown the new facility by the Principal of Charnwood College, Mark Sutton. The pitch, which was opened in June, is fully floodlit and can be used as four pitches for 5-a-side, 6-a-side or 7-a-side matches or as a full sized football pitch.

Loughborough MP is urging residents to have their say on dangerous dogs

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan is urging residents to take part in a consultation on a change in the law on dangerous dogs. The survey is on proposals to amend the maximum sentence for those convicted under the Dangerous Dogs Act.This follows a spate of incidents in the local area and also in the news, where irresponsible dog ownership resulted in people being injured and other dogs being seriously harmed or even killed.

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan met key representatives from the UK East Midlands Region of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party last week to discuss their concerns about the current political and human rights situation in Bangladesh and for them to present her with a letter.She met with Mr Shahid Ullah Khan (President), Mr Mohammed Abdul Mazid (General Secretary), Mr Altab Miah Choudhury (Organising Secretary) and Mr S M Abu Taher Chowdhury (Vice Chairman of the UK Bangladesh Nationalist Party) at her constituency office in Loughborough.

Loughborough MP welcomes statistics which show crime reduction in Leicestershire

Loughborough MP, Nicky Morgan has welcomed the latest release of crime statistics for Leicestershire by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) showing a 14% reduction in the annual recorded crime rate for the county.The statistics produced from the Police recorded crime figures for the year ending March, 2012 show that Leicestershire had the 3rd highest annual rate decline of 14% throughout England and Wales.
