Nicky welcomes proposals to prevent the disclosure of a transgender person’s former name on Companies House.

Member of Parliament for Loughborough, Nicky Morgan, has welcomed proposals in the Government’s consultation on Corporate transparency and register reform to introduce a new administrative procedure which would allow a director to apply to Companies House to have their previous name hidden on company filings and replaced with a new name.

Nicky has been raising this issue, which arises because of a conflict between the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and the Companies Act 2006, in Parliament since 2017, having introduced the Companies Documentation (Transgender Persons) Bill, which fell due to the 2017 General Election, led an Adjournment debate and met with Ministers in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
