My Week in Westminster - 9th March 2018

Wrote to Sarah Newton MP, Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, about PIP assessments – a local provider raised their concerns with me about the difficulties faced by patients with mental health issues in applying for PIP and having their existing payments reviewed. I wrote to the Minister for her comments on the matter. If you are having problems any welfare related issues, please do call my office on 01509 262723 to see whether we are able to help.

Met Cyan Tec Systems Ltd – this is a local hi tech automation company building special purpose machines and automated systems for the manufacturing sector. The company were in Parliament to inform MPs of how industrial lasers can fuel the Digital Manufacturing revolution and bring jobs, exports and GDP growth to the UK economy.

Chaired a Treasury Select Committee evidence session on SME finance – last month, as Chair, I launched an inquiry into SME finance which will consider the extent of competition in the market, the various sources of funding available to small businesses and whether the current regulatory framework provides appropriate protection to SMEs when they borrow money. As part of this, this week, we took evidence from representatives from the Funding Circle, the Business Growth Fund, Funding Xchange and CrowdCube. Spoke at the Association of British Healthcare Industries “Women in Leadership” event – it is important that we ensure women of all ages have the opportunities to develop in any industry. I spoke about why diversity in any organisation brings positive benefit and how important it is to retain women as they get more senior so they can be encouraged to apply for leadership positions. This event was particularly fitting given that it was International Women’s Day this week.
