Later this month, Charnwood teenager William Hebblethwaite will become a Member of Parliament for the day, when he joins local MP Nicky Morgan for a day in Loughborough. The activities are part of the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day 2013, a nationwide scheme that brings young people into leadership roles.
William will be spending the day shadowing Nicky, taking part in the constituency advice surgery, attending meetings and visiting local primary schools as part of Nicky’s Parliament Week activities. William will have a fantastic opportunity to put forward some of his own ideas and expertise during the day.
Nicky Morgan said:
“I can’t wait to work with William. This is the second year I have taken part in the scheme and I’m sure William will provide some valuable new perspectives on issues in the constituency.”
“Getting young adults involved with politics is extremely important, and getting William onboard this Takeover Day will further help in getting the voice of younger people heard.”
Last year’s Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover was highly successful. The nationwide scheme saw thousands of children and young adults getting involved, working with organisations such as the British Red Cross, Bernardo’s and the V&A museum of London.
