Loughborough MP visits Shepshed Dolphin Swimming Group

Local MP Nicky Morgan recently visited the Shepshed Dolphin Swimming Group which offers swimming sessions for disabled people and those with learning difficulties. This follows the good news that group has been awarded over £7000 by the Big Lottery Fund. The money will fund their major running costs until August 2014.

Nicky visited the group during one of its regular Saturday morning swimming pool sessions, where she observed lane swimming, Aquafit (exercise in the water to music led by a qualified instructor) and free time in the pool.

After observing the activities Nicky talked to the members, volunteers and lifeguards.

She commented:

“It was inspiring to see the great work that the Shepshed Dolphin Swimming Group is doing in providing provision for those who are less able. I congratulate them on the work they are doing, and that this has been recognised and rewarded by the Big Lottery Fund!”

The group meets on most Saturdays, 10.30-12.30 at Hind Leys swimming pool Shepshed.

The purpose of the group is to provide the facilities and suitable environment for weekly swimming sessions for people with a physical, sensory or learning disability, injury or other medical condition to improve their quality of life, increase physical mobility and confidence. The group also provides the opportunity to expand into other sports and social activities. They also aim to develop members’ experiences through friendship, companionship and enjoyment of each other’s company.
