Loughborough MP, Nicky Morgan, went back to school recently when she spent at a day with students and staff at Limehurst Academy in Loughborough.
During the day she taught two lessons on ‘Parliament and Democracy’ to Year 9 Humanities classes as well as joining a Year 7 Maths class and a Year 10 History lesson. She also had the opportunity to talk to the teachers in the staff room during break time and chatted to the students as she enjoyed a Friday lunch in the school canteen.
Nicky’s visit was part of a series of work shadowing days she has undertaken since being elected in 2010. Since then she has work shadowed local police officers, paramedics and GPs and asked Limehurst principal, Jon Mellor, if she could come and see work shadow some of the teachers for a day.
Following the visit, Nicky said:
“I had a wonderful day at Limehurst. The school has such a happy and purposeful atmosphere and I know that it is down to all the staff and students. It was a good challenge to explain how Parliament works and also to sit in on the History and Maths classes.”
Jon Mellor added:
"It was a real pleasure to welcome Nicky to the school. It was fascinating for our students to hear about how parliament and democracy works."
