My Week in Westminster - 31st March 2017

Attended the Prime Minister’s statement on Article 50 – this week, the UK’s permanent representative to the EU handed the Prime Minister’s letter to the President of the European Council invoking Article 50. This means that the official process for the UK to leave the EU is now underway.

Paid tribute to the victims of the attack in Westminster – this was a cowardly attack during which we saw the very best and worst of people. I would like to thank those constituents who contacted me to ensure we were ok.

Voted in the remaining stages of the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill – this week was the final opportunity to discuss the terms of the Bill, as well as the two amendments on Parliamentary scrutiny and the rights of EU nationals in the UK which were passed in the Lords.

Welcomed the Spring Budget - I am particularly pleased that the Government announced the new Midlands Engine Strategy which addresses productivity barriers across the Midlands.

Introduced a 10 Minute Rule Bill to the House of Commons – my Bill aims to protect trans people from unintended public disclosure of their former names by the Registrar of Companies.
