Supported the Prime Minister’s Statement on the Chequers Agreement - the Prime Minister updated the House on the Government’s agreed negotiating position for the next round of negotiations with the EU. I welcomed the Government’s position which puts business and jobs at the heart of any Brexit deal. I also pressed the Prime Minister for more information about when we should expect to hear the initial reaction from the EU. The Prime Minister’s statement and my question can be found here.
If you would like to read the Government’s White Paper which outlines the UK’s position on a post-Brexit relationship with the EU, you can do so here.
Attended the launch of the Electoral Reform Society’s pamphlet on “The Conservative Case for Votes at 16 & 17 – I have received a number of emails from young people locally over the years who would like to see the voting age lowered to 16. I think the time has now come to do this which is why I am backing a Private Members’ Bill tabled by Labour MP, Peter Kyle. In my contribution to this pamphlet, I set out why votes for 16 and 17 year olds is important and the next suffrage bridge we must cross. If you would like to read the pamphlet you can do so here.
Wrote to the Minister for Children and Families, Nadhim Zahawi MP, about support for care leavers – a local resident has contacted me to discuss their concerns about the level of support for care leavers. I sent a copy of their petition to the Minister and asked for more information about the Government’s current work in this area.
